PhD student advising and then mentoring and seeing how far your “children” go is the most wonderful part of academia and a most wonderful thing to be part of. A tribe indeed. Beautiful words.

Doktorvater (doctor-father), or Doktormutter, is the German term for PhD-advisor (and, in your case- spot-on). I’m sorry for your loss and hope you’re doing well.

My mother died almost 10 months ago. One of my favorite sewing bloggers died about 6 months before that. Both were wake up calls. Am I doing the things I want to be doing? Am I living the life I want to be living? What things are getting in the way of me doing what I want to do?

Be well!
