May 2011

Maybe I should cut my losses

Thanks to everyone who came out for the show!  We had lots of visitors (despite the decidedly un-spring-like weather) and lots of fun.  Joey tolerated the complete upheaval of our livingroom and took the opportunity of having bare floors to practice his new scooting skills.  Best of all, he got a surprise visit from Grandpa on Saturday!

Now that the show is over I have a long list of projects I’m looking forward to working on.

But first I need to finish this jacket.

This jacket.

Ugh.  I have remade the top flaps 3 separate times.

I have pulled out every line of topstitching at least once, often more.

I have second guessed every design decision, from the topstitching color, to the cut, to the placement of the buttons.

And I’m still not sure about it.

Problem #1: The left hand pocket flap is higher than the right-hand one.

Problem #2: Weird poofiness in the back.  It’s not there in the lining so I can’t figure out where this is coming from.

Problem #3:  Possibly looks like a fly-fishing vest?

What do think?  Should I cut my losses and move on or power through?

Painting update

I’m still really enjoying working on these color studies.

You can check out the full set on my flickr account.

I also started another landscape.  This one is from Chicago, along State Street at twilight:

You can come see all of these in person May 14-15, at the Cambridge Open Studios!
